Is Magic Stairs really free to use?
Yes. All four calculators — Straight, L-shaped, Ladder, and Porch — work without an account or payment. You only pay when you actually download an export — from €1 per file (PDF €1, DXF/SVG €3, Bundle €5, STEP/STL on Business plan).
Do I need to install anything?
No. Magic Stairs runs entirely in your browser. It works on Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge, on desktop, tablet, and modern phones.
Which stair types do you support?
Four: Straight (single flight), L-shaped (90° turn with landing or winders), Ladder (compact / space-saver), and Porch (outdoor entry steps). U-shaped and Spiral are in development. We focus on doing each type well rather than supporting every variation.
How accurate are the calculations?
The math is engineering-grade and follows common building-code formulas (rise ratio, step formula, total run, angle). For projects that require permits, always have a local professional sign off — codes vary by region.
Which units are supported?
Both metric (millimeters) and imperial (inches). You can switch units at any time from inside the calculator and your project will convert automatically.
What if my dimensions don't meet code?
The calculator flags out-of-range values inline (rise too tall, tread too narrow, angle too steep) so you can adjust before exporting. The flag references which rule was violated.
What export formats do you offer?
Five: PDF (multi-sheet construction drawing), DXF (CAD / CNC layered outlines), SVG (scalable vector for layout and laser cutting), STEP (parametric 3D CAD for SolidWorks / Fusion / Inventor), and STL (3D-printable mesh). STEP and STL are included only on the Business plan.
How does pay-per-download work?
When you click "Download", you confirm a small payment — from €1 depending on the format (PDF €1, DXF/SVG €3, Bundle €5). The file is generated on-demand and emailed to you (or downloaded directly if you have an account). No subscription required.
Can I use exports for commercial projects?
What does a free account give me?
Free accounts save your projects between visits — useful if you iterate on the same staircase over days or weeks. Downloads still go through pay-per-download (from €1 per file).
How do I cancel my Pro / Business plan?
From your account settings, click "Manage subscription". You'll be taken to the Stripe Customer Portal where one click cancels at the end of your current billing period — you keep access until then.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. Account deletion is one click in settings and anonymises all stored projects within 30 days. Tax-relevant invoices remain for 10 years per German law (§ 147 AO). Exports you've already downloaded remain yours.
Do you charge VAT?
Currently no — we operate under the German Kleinunternehmer rule (§ 19 UStG, 0% VAT). Stripe automatically calculates and charges VAT where your jurisdiction requires it (e.g. cross-border digital-service sales to EU consumers).
